What to Wear and Bring to Your First Surf Ski Session in Perth

Showing up prepared makes your first surf ski session more fun and a lot less stressful. Here is exactly what to wear and bring when you learn to surf ski in Perth, and what we provide so you do not have to.

What to wear

Keep it simple: swimmers, board shorts or quick-dry activewear, and a rashie or light long-sleeve top for sun protection. You will get wet, so wear something you do not mind paddling in. Avoid loose fitting clothes, which flaps in the wind wet and becomes cold.

What we provide

You do not need any gear to start. We supply the surf ski, paddle, leash and safety equipment at every session. If you have your own ski you are welcome to bring it, but you never need to.

What to bring

A towel, drinking water, sunscreen, and a hat and dry change of clothes for afterwards. Sunglasses with a strap are handy on bright Perth mornings.

Footwear

Most paddlers go barefoot. If you prefer, light reef booties are fine and give a bit of grip getting in and out at rocky launches.

Winter vs summer

In a Perth summer, swimmers and a rashie are plenty. Through winter the water and air are cooler, so a thermal top or a sleeveless wetsuit vest keeps you comfortable. When in doubt, ask us when you book and we will point you right.
